Competition season is upon us! It is a time of endless costumes, so much glitter, and weekends filled with both rehearsals and competitions. Our dancers have worked so hard to perfect their routines and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Each season Royal Dance Conservatory studio carefully selects four to five dance competitions to attend, but not for the reasons one might think.

Winter Gala Hopes

9/1/2018

Winter Gala is fast approaching and we couldn't be more excited! It is always a fun and magical performance and we cannot wait to enjoy the afternoon with you.

Gala is a great time for dancers to experience what it is like to dance on stage in front of an audience instead of a mirror. Our hope is that our dancers will use this experience to make mistakes, to learn and to grow in their classes. This performance is meant to be a great way to practice for recital so they can make the most of their time on stage come May. This will give all of our students a reminder or what dancing on a stage is like or for our little ones, a taste of what performing is like!

The Thrilling Half Time Performance - Stephanie's Perspective

15/11/2017

RDC was one of four local Winnipeg dance studios that had the amazing time performing in the half time show at the Bombers Game October 28th. We performed a zombie themed dance to Micheal Jackson's Thriller.

The rehearsals we pretty great. From learning the choreography at the studio, to the rehearsal at the stadium there were some differences. Thankfully we were able to do it well. The little dancers were at the front during the performance and did an amazing job remembering the dance.

It is okay if your child is not ready right away as it may take a few weeks until they feel comfortable.

In order to help your child succeed here are five tips to help your dancer have the best experience possible.

From Pink Tutus To Character Shoes - Katia's Perspective

It all started way back in 2006 when my mom registered me for my first ever ballet class I was three years old being very young I didn't know where I was or why I was wearing a pink tutu but I knew what I was there for I was there for doing what I loved to do DANCE.

RDC is very close to my heart I've been dancing at Royal Dance Conservatory almost 11 years now. I've taken ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, and my very favorite Havana. I've seen students and teachers come and go but one always stayed with us, Miss Nicole. Now the studio owner/director, she's the best dance teacher and friend anyone could ask for she's seen me and my other dance friends at our best and at our worst yet she's never given up on us dancing.

Get The Most Out Of Your Summer!

The competition season is complete, ballet exams are over, and recital is just around the corner. With everything coming to an end, what's next? All of us at RDC want to provide an outlet for your child. Let us keep their minds active and their bodies in dance mode.

Summer breaks are awesome, but can significantly set back a dancers progress.  When someone is used to working out for the majority of the year, it can be a shock to their routine and atrophy will begin.  Not just for the body, but for the mind as well.  Students can slip back into old habits and will most definitely have pent up energy that they will not know where to put.

While working hard in the dance studio is always important, practicing outside of class may even be more important! Royal Dance Conservatory Lyrical Competitive Solo Winnipeg Showcase Taylor Wiens
Royal Dance Conservatory means the world to me, it has become my second home. RDC has helped me grow as a dancer and a person. Before RDC dance was just a hobby of mine not so much a passion. I started to want to challenge myself more in dance. I wanted to compete and challenge myself, but I lived in a small town and that wasn't offered at my dance studio. When I moved to Winnipeg I knew I wanted to go to RDC.

Royal Dance Conservatory - Winnipeg Dance Academy and Studio - Hailey Fillion Dancer Perspective
Hi my name is Hailey I’m 11 years old and I have been dancing at RDC for five years now.

Dance to most people is just dancing to a beat but to me it's so much more it's like an escape from reality and when I'm on stage or at the studio dancing I can express myself through a song and a piece of choreography. From hip hop where I am hitting sharp moves to ballet and working on my technique. It doesn't matter what type of dance I am doing…..it's my love and my passion and it’s been like that sense I started dancing at Royal Dance Conservatory.

RDC Takes CNDC 2017 - Taylor's Perspective

Royal Dance Conservatory: Winnipeg Dance Academy at Canadian National Dance Championships Judges Choice Award Winnipegs
The morning of CNDC came and I was so exited. I love going to competitions. CNDC was a great competition, RDC did really well as a studio and as individuals it was a rewarding experience. The team started with solos and duets but we all there to support our team mates even if not all of us were dancing. That is what I love about RDC, everyone is always there to support you no matter what happens, even if you mess up some turns and almost fall off the stage. That Friday night we had our first group dance, our lyrical small group. It was my first dance of the competition and I was super pumped just to get on stage and dance. When i got off stage I felt great because lyrical is my favourite style and I felt like I did a good job.

Royal Dance Conservatory: Winnipeg Dance Studio Lyrical Competitive Solo Hannah Moore
I started dancing when I was 10 years old at Royal Dance Conservatory. At the very beginning, I did two rec classes and danced because it was fun and something I enjoyed doing. Now it is much more than that, throughout the years my passion and love for dance has grown tremendously. Dance is the one thing that I absolutely love. When I dance I feel like a different person, it lets me escape and I get to feel the music with my movements and tell a story and express my feelings through my dancing. Royal Dance Conservatory is like an escape for me. I am there practically every single day and it has become my home away from home. It is my favourite place in the whole world. When I'm there I don't have to worry about impressing anyone or stress about school or anything I can just be myself and dance.

It’s Not Only A Place To Dance But A Second Home - Nataya's Perspective

Royal Dance Conservatory is an amazing dance studio! But it’s not only a place to dance but a second home to many of the dancers and a place to meet great people. When I started at RDC I only took one Hip Hop class. I had absolutely no idea hat I was walking into. It was my first time joining a dance class anywhere. When we began the class I instantly loved it! the next year I decided to take more classes in addition to Hip hop, I took Jazz and Lyrical as well. As I thought I would, I fell in love with those styles too! I am now on my fourth year at RDC and I’m loving every minute of it!

What Does RDC Mean To Me? - Guoria's Perspective

When I walked into this foreign dance studio at 8 years old, I was terrified. Meeting new people scared me more than anything and learning new things came close in second. I was scared that people would judge me because I couldn’t dance. I couldn’t even walk in a straight line without tripping over my feet, so how was I supposed to move my body like everyone else? Like a dancer…. But slowly, over the years, RDC helped me learn how to be confident and be comfortable in my own skin.

The two weeks before we left Winnipeg were the longest weeks of my life, but when the day of leaving for Toronto arrived I was totally ready! We left the house around 7:45 to pick up my teammate and friend Bobbi and then went to get Miss Nicole. Surprisingly waiting at the airport went by super fast and before you knew we were flying. The flying experience was so amazing for me because it was my first time on an airplane.

Ballet – The Underpinning of all Dance Structure

19/3/2017

Picture
Ballet is the foundation of all dance disciplines. Ballet requires grace, precision, and passion. Ballet allows dancers to fully appreciate other dance styles and creates a greater quality of dance.

Ballet gives dancers a solid foundation of technique. All other styles of dance can be built from it. It shows the students how to enhance the quality of their lines, posture, flexibility, alignment, and strength. Ballet dancers must be fully aware of their footwork, weight placement, core, posture, and movements.

Why Choose Dance - Creating the Next Generation of Community Leaders

14/3/2017

Why Choose Dance - Winnipeg Dance Academy Blog
Think past the long lean lines, satin ballet slippers, and the pink tutu that often come into your mind when you envision dance. Dance can do much more for your children than just teach them cool moves! From the earliest stages of childhood development, movement is a primary form of communication and fun. Dance and movement therapy is an amazing opportunity and should be regarded as an integral part of children’s development. Dance provides children with a strong fundamental platform to learn in a comfortable environment and express themselves, as well as help to grow a child into a productive and mindful young adult with a strong sense of self. They will gain the perspectives and knowledge to tackle any situation that they encounter.

What Our Dancers Are Saying

Our daughter Hailey has been dancing at RDC for over 5 years now. We have watched her blossom from a shy little girl who was so nervous to dance to this incredibly confident performer. Miss Nicole, the studio director is so involved and you see how much she genuinely cares about the kids but also the studio. We look forward to many more years with RDC and recommend the studio to anyone who wants to be more than just a number.
