Competition season is upon us! It is a time of endless costumes, so much glitter, and weekends filled with both rehearsals and competitions. Our dancers have worked so hard to perfect their routines and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Each season Royal Dance Conservatory studio carefully selects four to five dance competitions to attend, but not for the reasons one might think.

Winter Gala Hopes

Winter Gala is fast approaching and we couldn't be more excited! It is always a fun and magical performance and we cannot wait to enjoy the afternoon with you.

Gala is a great time for dancers to experience what it is like to dance on stage in front of an audience instead of a mirror. Our hope is that our dancers will use this experience to make mistakes, to learn and to grow in their classes. This performance is meant to be a great way to practice for recital so they can make the most of their time on stage come May. This will give all of our students a reminder or what dancing on a stage is like or for our little ones, a taste of what performing is like!

Get The Most Out Of Your Summer!

The competition season is complete, ballet exams are over, and recital is just around the corner. With everything coming to an end, what's next? All of us at RDC want to provide an outlet for your child. Let us keep their minds active and their bodies in dance mode.

Summer breaks are awesome, but can significantly set back a dancers progress.  When someone is used to working out for the majority of the year, it can be a shock to their routine and atrophy will begin.  Not just for the body, but for the mind as well.  Students can slip back into old habits and will most definitely have pent up energy that they will not know where to put.

Royal Dance Conservatory - Winnipeg Dance Academy and Studio - Dancers Practicing In Class
While working hard in the dance studio is always important, practicing outside of class may even be more important! Dance classes are only one hour long, where you learn new moves, get taught choreography, and are given corrections. These things you learn should be taken from the teacher and then applied. How do you apply them? Practice!

Ballet – The Underpinning of all Dance Structure

Ballet is the foundation of all dance disciplines. Ballet requires grace, precision, and passion. Ballet allows dancers to fully appreciate other dance styles and creates a greater quality of dance.

Ballet gives dancers a solid foundation of technique. All other styles of dance can be built from it. It shows the students how to enhance the quality of their lines, posture, flexibility, alignment, and strength. Ballet dancers must be fully aware of their footwork, weight placement, core, posture, and movements.

Why Choose Dance - Creating the Next Generation of Community Leaders

Why Choose Dance - Winnipeg Dance Academy Blog
Think past the long lean lines, satin ballet slippers, and the pink tutu that often come into your mind when you envision dance. Dance can do much more for your children than just teach them cool moves! From the earliest stages of childhood development, movement is a primary form of communication and fun. Dance and movement therapy is an amazing opportunity and should be regarded as an integral part of children’s development. Dance provides children with a strong fundamental platform to learn in a comfortable environment and express themselves, as well as help to grow a child into a productive and mindful young adult with a strong sense of self. They will gain the perspectives and knowledge to tackle any situation that they encounter.

What Our Dancers Are Saying

Our daughter Hailey has been dancing at RDC for over 5 years now. We have watched her blossom from a shy little girl who was so nervous to dance to this incredibly confident performer. Miss Nicole, the studio director is so involved and you see how much she genuinely cares about the kids but also the studio. We look forward to many more years with RDC and recommend the studio to anyone who wants to be more than just a number.
