Ballet – The Underpinning of all Dance Structure

Ballet is the foundation of all dance disciplines. Ballet requires grace, precision, and passion. Ballet allows dancers to fully appreciate other dance styles and creates a greater quality of dance.

Ballet gives dancers a solid foundation of technique. All other styles of dance can be built from it. It shows the students how to enhance the quality of their lines, posture, flexibility, alignment, and strength. Ballet dancers must be fully aware of their footwork, weight placement, core, posture, and movements.

Ballet training must be maintained to retain technique and to stay proficient. A solid foundation is similar to the ground floor of a building. Remove it and the entire structure would crumble. Ballet Exams are a great way to improve the fundamental dance knowledge and movement.Ballet offers more than just physical benefits; it instills discipline, musicality, patience, attention-to-detail, determination, and grace. It promotes respect for the teacher and promotes self-respect for the student. Ballet can make a person a better all-around dancer. Students will take with them a new outlook and approach to their lives; they will be able to utilize these new skills handling situations they may encounter in their daily lives.

It is crucial to remind students to work through their technique and from their heart. It’s not important how we look when we dance, how many turns we can do or how high our extensions are. The most important thing is passion. Encouraging students to believe in themselves and love the way they move as an individual will evoke self-confidence and pride. When students express themselves through dance, they build confidence and their thoughts become more positive, all the while making ballet more fun. 

​Ballet showcases what passion and drive can bring if you focus on positivity and the beauty from within.  This piece was inspired by the completion of our mock Royal Academy of Dance exams this weekend. Congratulations to all of our students on their efforts and hard work. At the RDC Winnipeg dance studio and dance academy we take pride in each student, reminding them to take a deep breath and take it one step at a time. This follows our prime thought “dance to express not impress”.
